At Peterson Lexus there are many questions about Hybrid technology that many clients of our ask.  We have found Lexus.com to be an excellent resource for these questions:

How does Lexus Hybrid Drive work?

During strong acceleration, and when maximum power is required, Lexus Hybrid Drive simultaneously uses its internal combustion engine and electric-drive motor for exceptional performance. When the electric-drive motor complements the gasoline engine, it provides higher torque, which in turn results in smoother acceleration, free from gearshift lag. With regenerative braking, the electric motor functions as a generator during coasting and braking. Energy that would normally be lost as heat is captured as electrical energy, which is then used to recharge the battery. And while traditional transmissions use fixed gears, the Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) contains an infinite number of gear ratios to help provide optimal performance for all driving conditions. This helps improve both acceleration and fuel economy.

What are the benefits of owning a hybrid vehicle?

Major benefits include increased acceleration, lower emissions, smoother ride, reduced noise and better fuel economy.

Does driving a hybrid feel different than driving a conventional vehicle?

For the most part, a hybrid feels the same as other vehicles, but there are a few differences that are quite noticeable. One obvious difference is a significantly smooth and quieter ride due to the use of electric power during startup and lower speeds, gear shifting and steering. Our hybrids also provide impressive acceleration response due to the electric motors delivering maximum torque instantly, giving our vehicles some of the quickest 0-60 times in our lineup, even quicker than many conventional competitors. There are also different things you should keep in mind to maintain your hybrid.
